The RICKTER AUS OPEN consists of 3 days of fierce competition carefully executed by juggernauts of the freeride industry. The judging and process is the combination of decades of experience by our team to shape the fairest and most competitive freeride event in the world.
The ocean conditions at Alexandra Headland provide the perfect arena — consistent swell, beach break barrels, and an amphitheatre-style shoreline that puts spectators right on top of the action.

Riders hit the water for qualifying rounds. Top performers advance to 1/8 Finals. Others enter the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) — one more shot to earn their place.
LCQ, 1/8 Finals, and 1/4 Finals. The field narrows as riders battle through head-to-head heats. Intensity builds as the finals field takes shape.
1/2 Finals, Consolation Final, and the Championship Grand Final. The best of the best. Trophies, cash, and glory on the line.
A proven world-class bracket format designed for fairness and intensity:
Judges are a mix of industry experts and expert riders — bringing decades of combined freeride experience to ensure every heat is scored fairly and consistently.
Riders are scored on trick difficulty, execution, style, wave selection, and overall impression across timed heats. The two-colour (Red vs Blue) heat format ensures head-to-head accountability.
Entry into the RICKTER AUS OPEN is optional and included with all JETPILOT SCX FREERIDE registrations ($300). All Freeride entrants are eligible to compete in both Amateur and Pro classes.
